Captain Avinash Batra
Capt Avinash Batra is one of the founder members of Seahorse Group of companies, Mumbai, which was established in 1980 and is one of the premier shipping and allied services company in India. He is the Director/Shareholder/Chairman of the Group Companies involved in Ship Agency, Container Leasing, Container Repairs & Storage Depots and Cargo logistics.
After successfully completing pre-sea training from T. S. Dufferin,
Capt. Avinash Batra served on various ships from 1962 to 1979, owned by M/s. Scindia Steam Navigation Co. Ltd. & Wallem Ship management,
Hong Kong. He obtained the ‘Master’s Certificate of Proficiency and Competence’ in the year 1969 and took Command of a Ship in 1974. He, thereafter pursued full time studies to undertake ‘Post Graduate Studies in Shipping Management’ from Plymouth Polytechnic, UK in 1976-77 and also obtained Certificate of “Management of Offshore Operations”.
He is associated with some of the leading and reputed trade bodies such as:
- Ex-President on the Board of "The Council of EU Chambers of Commerce in India.
- Chairman, Indo-Spanish bi-lateral trade committee of Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
- Member Managing Committee, Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
- Past Chairman : Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Shipping and Transport Sub-Committee.
- Past President of Indo-Sri Lankan Society.
- Till recently Trustee on the Board of JNPT
- Honorary Consul of Latvia in Mumbai, India
